Does CollectAny work with an Apple Mac?

No CollectAny is currently a Windows-only product.

I can't see the template I need in your examples - what can I do?

CollectAny lets you design your own collections if you can't find a template that already suits your needs. However the free design service is provided to help get you off the ground and we are happy to try to design a collection for you if you explain your requirements. Plus the 'one-click designer' provides a way to very easily create simple collections for a whole variety of collectables.

Can I store music mp3s and videos in a CollectionSet file?

Well, possibly. You can certainly add files (add links to files) to a CollectionSet and these are embedded within the CollectionSet file. However you've got to consider some practicalities if you are intending on embedding big files :

Music files are quite large and the amount of data can soon add up if you are adding multiple files. Video files are often enormous ! Having lots of these files could make the CollectionSet file very large which isn't really a good idea because massive files on computers 'can' lead to problems.

So in summary, yes you can add mp3s and video files (and there isn't anything in CollectAny to stop you) however in general it is better to link to external files (web sites, files on the internet, files on local storage).

Note that you can get links to files contained in Cloud storage and these links can be added to CollectionSets. This means that the files themselves are not embedded within the CollectionSet files.

How do I add new fields to a collection?

Once the design is finalised in a CollectionSet file you can't change it. This makes sense because if you have shared the collection and are building it in collaboration with other collectors you can't have your version of the collection design being different to theirs ! Each CollectionSet has a unique identity which basically means that the design is unique.

However making a new database from an existing one is easy due to the ability to import an existing design and import data.

Can CollectAny handle a large quantity of data ?

Yes it can ! We have proved this with record collections holding over 20,000 + records. Of course, if you have thousands of photos and embedded links, expect very large collection files !

I'm worried that all the effort of data entry with CollectAny will mean my data is locked in there for good.

Don't worry. We appreciate that users may well want to transfer their data to another product. We don't try to prevent this in any way and so provide powerful import and export features.
